Gas Price Watch is a web site dedicated to providing the lowest gas prices to their site visitors. Simply type in your zip code and you'll be shown a map with the closest gas stations and their last listed price. Simply pick the one with the cheapest gas and you're all set!
You can also sign up as a spotter and report gas prices in your area. You can accumulate points by doing this and, in the future, have a chance to win free merchandise from corporate sponsors. Sounds nice to me!
What are some other ways to save on gas?
Here are some things that I have done. This is by no means a complete list, but it's a start.
1. Have you ever wondered what that double line at the 55 mph mark on your speedometer was? That's your fuel efficient speed. When on a highway or interstate, it's best to drive at 55 mph to save on gas.
2. Drive slower. Go the speed limit, or slower if you'd like. This burns less gas.
3. Stop and go traffic is a real pain and best avoided entirely. However, if you can't avoid it, keep your foot off the gas as much as possible. There's no need to jackrabbit yourself forward when you'll only stop a few feet ahead. Simply let off the break and coast. Also, avoid constant lane switching to get ahead. This makes traffic worse and isn't good for your gas mileage.
4. Let off the gas sooner before you come to a complete stop. Many drivers (especially here in Massachusetts) like to do what I call "Hurry up and wait". If there's a stop sign or red light ahead, let up off the gas pedal and coast a bit. There's no reason to rush if all you're going to do is stop ahead.
5. Give yourself more time for commutes. Get up earlier in the morning, or just learn to be patient. If you're in a hurry, you'll drive faster and behave recklessly. This will kill your gas mileage. Instead, stay calm and take it slow. Don't be in a rush, and don't give yourself a reason to be either.
